E-WMS - Advice line switch

WMS documentation WMS documentation

Introduction

This document describes the automatic advice line switch, as available in E-WMS from release 409 and patched to release 408.

Description

When picking a sales order, or production materials, or a replenishment order, it was already possible to divert from the generated picking advice. You could pick from another location, or another batch, or another SKU.

Whether diverting from the picking advice (location, S/B number or SKU number) is allowed, depends on the scanner setting 'Advice mandatory', for each process.

When in previous releases diverting from the advice, and picking another batch or SKU number, then E-WMS did not select another advice line containing that batch or SKU number. You just picked batchB for the advice line for batchA, and the advice line for batchB would still be open to be picked later. This could lead to unclear situations or 'stock reserved' messages.

From release 409 (and also made available in 408), E-WMS will switch to another advice line,  when diverting from the advice, under following circumstances:

  • the scanned serial/batch number or SKU number is advised in another (still open) advice line
  • that other advice line is for the same order line (=sales order line number, or production material line, etc.) as the currently active advice line
  • that other advice line is for the same location as the current advice line
  • 'pivot point' is not enabled (switching the advice line cannot be supported when pivot point is enabled)
  • the scanner setting 'Advice mandatory' is disabled

Specifics for this 'advice line switch':

  • the 'next' advice line shown after the right advice line has been selected and picked, is the first line that would have to be picked after that 'auto-selected' advice line.
If that 'auto-selected' advice line was the last advice line, then the first open advice line is shown again.

  • when you still see the message 'Value different from advice ..', it means that NO advice line switch was done, and you will still deviate from the advice.
That can be the case when the 'found' advice line was for another location, or another order line, or pivot point is enabled.

Sample scenario 1: picking another batch

old situation
You are supposed to pick batch 1 But batch 3 is better accessible, so scanned first resulting in this warning message confirming the quantity ... and an error message because batch 3 was reserved for another advice line

new situation
You are supposed to pick batch 1 But batch 3 is better accessible, so scanned first WMS now switched the advice line to the one for batch 3, the quantity can be entered ... ... and the next advice line shows

Sample scenario 2: picking another SKU

old situation
Advice to pick SKU ..34 first but SKU ..72 is better reachable, so is picked first, and scanned: Warning message: and next an error message, because
SKU ..72 is reserved for another advice line:

new situation
After the change, where WMS switches to the right advice line automatically:

Advice to pick SKU ..34 first but SKU ..58 is better reachable, so is picked first, and scanned: and SKU ..58 is already picked, and the next advice line shows (the next line after the advice line for SKU ..58)
